This is a riveting interview with former CIA analyst Ray McGovern discussing the apparent immanent attack of Iran that Bush and Cheney administration and Israel seem to be hell bent on orchestrating regardless of whatever anyone else thinks.
Late last year, Congress agreed to a request from President Bush to fund a major escalation of covert operations against Iran, according to current and former military, intelligence, and congressional sources. These operations, for which the President sought up to four hundred million dollars, were described in a Presidential Finding signed by Bush, and are designed to destabilize the country’s religious leadership. The covert activities involve support of the minority Ahwazi Arab and Baluchi groups and other dissident organizations. They also include gathering intelligence about Iran’s suspected nuclear-weapons program.
Clandestine operations against Iran are not new. United States Special Operations Forces have been conducting cross-border operations from southern Iraq, with Presidential authorization, since last year. These have included seizing members of Al Quds, the commando arm of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and taking them to Iraq for interrogation, and the pursuit of “high-value targets” in the President’s war on terror, who may be captured or killed. But the scale and the scope of the operations in Iran, which involve the Central Intelligence Agency and the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), have now been significantly expanded, according to the current and former officials. Many of these activities are not specified in the new Finding, and some congressional leaders have had serious questions about their nature.
By 1971, as this skilfully made film shows, discontent was widely reported by the network news. Activists created newspapers, organised protests - and, most conspicuously, went to see Jane Fonda perform in the vicinity of various military bases. From our present-day perspective, what comes through most clearly is the passionate patriotism of most of these GIs hostile to the war. They loved America but they just didn't see why they should be in Vietnam.
The Pentagon launched its covert media analyst program in 2002, to sell the Iraq war. Later, it was used to sell an image of progress in Afghanistan, whitewash the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, and defend the Bush administration's warrantless wiretapping, as David Barstow reported in his New York Times expose.
But the pundits weren't just selling government talking points. As Robert Bevelacqua, William Cowan and Carlton Sherwood enjoyed high-level Pentagon access through the analyst program, their WVC3 Group sought "contracts worth tens of millions to supply body armor and counterintelligence services in Iraq," reported Barstow. Cowan admitted to "pushing hard" on a WVC3 contract, during a Pentagon-funded trip to Iraq.
It's far too easy for American to sit at home where they don't have to see and feel any of the realities of what is going on in Iraq, to our soldiers and to innocent Iraqi's. The U.S. news is totally sanitized to ensure nobody has to face the truth of war and what it does to people. All you hear is the propaganda the military needs you to hear so you will continue to support what they are doing. The first casualty of war is THE TRUTH.
It's totally amazing what these marines are doing to show Americans what life is like in Iraq for our soldiers and for the citizens of Iraq.
War Made Easy reaches into the Orwellian memory hole to expose a 50-year pattern of government deception and media spin that has dragged ... all » the United States into one war after another from Vietnam to Iraq. Narrated by actor and activist Sean Penn, the film exhumes remarkable archival footage of official distortion and exaggeration from LBJ to George W. Bush, revealing in stunning detail how the American news media have uncritically disseminated the pro-war messages of successive presidential administrations.
The Bush Administration apparently does not want a U.S. military study that found no direct connection between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda to get any attention. This morning, the Pentagon cancelled plans to send out a press release announcing the report's release and will no longer make the report available online.
The report was to be posted on the Joint Forces Command website this afternoon, followed by a background briefing with the authors. No more. The report will be made available only to those who ask for it, and it will be sent via U.S. mail from Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia.
It won't be emailed to reporters and it won't be posted online.
The one thing every supporter of the war in the middle east consistently fails to acknowledge is the entire operation is based on LIES. There is literally a mountain of evidence to back this assertion up, the latest being this study sponsored by the Pentagon, that absolutely verifies this fact. We were told we needed to attack Iraq because they "harbored Al-Qaeda terrorists." And since they "knew it wasn't true" they quickly morphed it into the whole weapons of mass destruction LIE, then into the "Operation Iraqi Freedom" LIE.
How anyone in good conscience can continue to put our soldiers in harms way, and endorse the slaughter of more innocent Iraqi citizens (Over a million so far!) when it's been proven that we were massively lied to and manipulated into supporting the start of this war, is beyond me.

After reviewing hundreds of thousands of captured Iraqi documents, a Pentagon-sponsored review has found no evidence of operational links between Iraqi strongman Saddam Hussein and the al-Qaeda terror network, a McClatchy article reports.
The "exhaustive" study found that Saddam Hussein did provide some support to other terrorist groups but, as Warren Strobel writes for McClatchy, "his security services were directed primarily against Iraqi exiles, Shiite Muslims, Kurds and others he considered enemies of his regime."
Strobel reiterates that the new study "found no documents indicating a 'direct operational link' between Hussein's Iraq and al Qaida before the invasion," according to an unnamed US official. The study is due to Congress and for general release by midweek.
Do you have any idea how much money a TRILLION dollars is? Do you really have any idea how much of our economy has been swallowed up by the Military Industrial Complex and how that fact has turned our country into the scourge of the planet because all we create and export anymore is death and destruction? We are allowing war mongers to drain TRILLIONS out of our economy to destroy other people and other countries and in the process, it's destroying ours and any decent future for our children.
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. The world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hope of its children… This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron."
- Dwight Eisenhower
(Speech before the American Society of Newspaper Editors, Washington, D.C. April 16, 1953)

Noble Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz estimates that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan may cost the US up to USD 7 trillion.
When US troops invaded Iraq in March 2003, the Bush administration predicted that the war would be self-financing and that rebuilding the nation would cost less than USD 2b, but Stiglitz estimates that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are costing America more than USD 3 trillion.
I believe it's WAY past the for us to sober up and recognize what we are allowing our government to do in the Middle East. We are literally slaughtering hundreds of thousands of innocent people in the name of spreading democracy and freedom for crying out loud! And we are in Iraq killing all these people because our government LIED to us about why we needed to attack them (if you don't believe we were lied to watch this short video compilation of the chain of lies, one morphing into the next). Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9-11. They had NO WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. There was no Al-Qaeda in Iraq. They posed no direct threat to us whatsoever. And our government is still linking this war to 9-11 and still lying to us about everything, including our need to attack another country that poses no threat, Iran.
Iraq did not attack us on 9-11. That's the bottom line. THEY DID NOT ATTACK US ON 9-11. So how do you justify murdering over a million Iraqis? OVER A MILLION INNOCENT PEOPLE!! I swear, the people of this country are doped out or something. A huge number of us simply don't feel anything at all about what our country is doing in our name. It's sickening.
Every American needs to look at what's going on square in the face. I urge you to click on the picture below and look at exactly who we are killing in Iraq. It's not 'terrorist'. It's people like you and me. It's our family and friends. Do you really want to be part of this mass murder of innocent people?
If after looking straight at the photos on this page you still feel what we are doing is right, then I don't know what to say. If another country was doing this in your neighborhood, how would you feel then? It's far too easy to sit in our homes where we don't have to see or hear the slaughter going on. It's just too easy. Our government and media deliberately shields the American people from seeing what we are REALLY doing.

This war, like every war, has been instigated by the powerful transnational corporate interests, the central bankers, that make obscene amounts of money off war. They own and control the entire military industrial complex that is stampeding all over us and all over this planet. They see the world as their own little private chess board and ordinary people as nothing more than cannon fodder. This war has NOTHING to do with what we are told it has to do with. Read "War is a Racket" by Brigadier General Smedley Butler if you really want to understand what wars are all about. All wars. The people orchestrating wars literally manufacture enemies and pit them against each other.
More than one million Iraqis have died as a result of the US-led invasion according to a survey by one of Britain's leading polling groups.
The survey, conducted by Opinion Research Business (ORB) with 2,414 adults in face-to-face interviews, found that 20 percent of people questioned had at least one death in their household as a result of the conflict, rather than natural causes, Antiwar.com reported.
The last complete census in Iraq conducted in 1997 found 4.05 million households in Iraq, a figure ORB used to calculate that approximately 1.03 million people had died as a result of the war.
